Why six sessions is a baseline, not a promise
Laser only disables follicles that are in the active anagen growth phase at the moment of treatment. At any time only a fraction of your hair is in that phase, which is why a single session can never clear an area. Spacing sessions to the body region's growth cycle is how you catch successive waves of anagen follicles. Six to eight sessions is a realistic baseline for many people, but hormones, body area and hair colour move that number. Anyone promising permanent removal in three sessions is selling, not informing.

This is also why maintenance sessions are normal rather than a sign of failure. Hormonal drivers like PCOS can reactivate follicles, so a once-a-year touch-up is a feature of the technology, not a defect.
Which is exactly why the cost maths should include maintenance. A clinic course that looks cheaper upfront can lose to an at-home device once you price five years of touch-ups.
